Commercial Construction Manager

The Position: Reporting to the General Manager, the Construction Manager is a key member of the Management Team, with the overall responsibility for ensuring the successful execution of a number of concurrent commercial construction projects from conception to completion. The Commercial Construction Department has been in operation for over 10 years, and this role is supported by a number of landscaping industry experts to deliver premium green-scape projects to Tier 1 builders.

What we’re looking for:

  • A seasoned operator, who has worked in the commercial construction industry, ideally in a sub-contractor business
  • Experience across all facets of the construction project, from conception to completion
  • A high level of understanding for constructability and contract law in the context of the commercial construction industry 
  • Experience working for or with a landscaping business would be highly desirable, but not essential
  • Tertiary qualifications in building & construction, construction management, engineering, and/or a relevant trade would be highly desirable, but not essential if the candidate had attended industry specific short courses and has had significant relevant work experience
  • Dynamic and modern leadership experience, demonstrated in a leadership role for a minimum of 5 years
  • A highly effective communicator, recognising the influence verbal and written communication has in successful negotiation and people management
  • Solutions focused, and have experience in managing complex matters to derive best practice outcomes
  • An individual capable of understanding and delivering the business strategy

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Own the delivery the business department strategy
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, builders, sub-contractors, suppliers, builder architects and developers. 
  • Oversee all functions of the commercial construction department which include estimating, contracts administration, site supervision and administration.
  • Provide strategic direction on appropriate projects to target after carefully considered risk assessments appropriate to TDL. 
  • Lead the team to complete all projects on time, in budget and in accordance with the contract.
  • Review, measure and take accountability for department profitability in all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in the Senior Leadership Team, reporting monthly and as required.

The position: Reporting to the General Manager, the newly created role of Contracts Manager is a key member of the Management Team and Commercial Construction leadership team, responsible for ensuring the successful execution of a number of concurrent commercial construction contracts along with overseeing the Estimating & Contracts Admin. department. In conjunction with the Commercial Construction Manager, this role oversees the entire commercial construction department.

What we’re looking for:

  • A seasoned operator, who has worked in the commercial construction industry, ideally in a sub-contractor business
  • A minimum of 10 years working with commercial construction contracts and the laws that govern them
  • Tertiary qualifications in Construction Management/Engineering/Quantity Surveying or similar, along with regular attendance at relevant workshops and seminars to keep abreast of changes to the industry and best practice
  • Dynamic and modern leadership experience, demonstrated in a similar leadership role for a minimum of 2 years
  • A highly effective communicator, recognising the influence verbal and written communication has in contract negotiation and client relations
  • Solutions focused, and have experience in managing complex commercial matters to derive best practice outcomes
  • An individual capable of understanding and delivering the business strategy

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • In conjunction with the Commercial Construction Manager, own the delivery the business department strategy

The Position:  A unique opportunity has arisen for somebody to join our team in the position of Lead Gardener with TDL. This is a highly sought-after position, leading a small team of Gardeners to maintain green spaces across the Perth metropolitan area. The successful applicant will complete a range of gardening tasks along with liaising with Clients, work scheduling and business development in conjunction with the Service Managers.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven track record in customer service, time management and scheduling along with delivering a quality service to clients
  • Proven experience leading a team
  • Positive team player with a can-do attitude
  • Physically fit, with experience working outdoors
  • Manual Drivers Licence
  • White Card

We require both full time and casual roles but with the potential to turn into full time positions.  There is even the opportunity for TDL to put you through a traineeship so you get a Cert 3 in Horticulture at our cost.

These positions are available in the metro area, the Port Kennedy area and the Bunbury area. Experience in Landscape Maintenance for Commercial and Residential sites is highly regarded for our Maintenance roles. For the commercial roles, we’re looking for all-round landscape construction experience.

To be successful you’ll need to be a positive team player with a ‘can do’ attitude. You’ll be completing a range of manual handling and related landscape tasks in a small team under the direction of a team leader. We’d love you to have a MH License and white card where possible. We’ll proudly supply you with our TDL branded uniforms, and all PPE is provided.

The Position:  As we’re continuing to grow, TDL now has new opportunities for general labourers to assist on a range of landscaping projects throughout the Perth metro area and beyond. 

No experience is necessary as full training is provided, but we do require a good level of fitness, willingness to learn and a ‘can do’ attitude. You’ll be completing a range of manual handling and landscape related tasks in a small team under the direction of a senior staff member. 

You will need your White Card to work on any of our Construction sites, so if you don’t have it already, you’ll need to be willing to attain prior to employment.

TDL nurtures staff development and works on clear career pathways for employees. This is a casual, entry level position with the opportunity for permanency, further training and career development for the right candidate.

STudent & Graduate Opportunities

Work Experience
We offer seasonal work experience opportunities to some students during school holidays, fill out an application and tell us why you would be a good candidate. TDL work experience is an opportunity to make money and explore your interest in landscaping before making a commitment to it as your future career.

School based traineeships
If you are still at school, you can access an apprenticeship through your school. Talk to your school's VET Co-ordinator or career councillor about starting your training through VET in Schools. A training plan will be developed through a registered training organisation (such as a TAFE), and will need to be authorised by you, your school, and a guardian if you are under 18. As an SBAT you would be required to work a minimum average of 7.5 hours of paid work per week, averaged over six months. Your training may be completed while at school, or after you have finished.

Traineeships – 12 months
We offer apprenticeships or traineeships to school-leavers. If you are no longer at school, you can apply for an apprenticeship or traineeship and get paid while you learn and work. Spend time working and learning practical skills on the job and undertake structured training with a registered training provider.
