Applecross Pool and Garden Design & Construct

A selection of beautiful existing trees defined the redesign of this outstanding Applecross property. The brief included a renovation of all external spaces and the recreation of an indoor water feature.

To the fore, a reconfigured the driveway and pedestrian pathways created an inviting and functional approach. A pair of reclaimed dragon trees (Dracaena draco) border a pedestrian gatehouse and a ‘floating’ letterbox frames the entry.

Inside the home a crisp indoor reflection pond was created with monolithic slab steps and an integrated waterfall that connects living spaces, a lush green courtyard and the rear garden beyond.

A water rill leads out onto an expanse of timber decking with the illusion of water flowing from inside out.

As you step out into the rear garden beneath a wisteria covered patio, a large fully tiled concrete swimming pool demands your attention, featuring an integrated spa, swimjet and concealed remco pool cover. The pool is bordered by a mature hedge of Indian hawthorn that sits within an isolating ‘moat’ negating the need for a traditional pool fence.

Progressing out into the garden along a central pathway there is a large rectangular lawn that balances against the pool and creates a space large enough for the family to enjoy practising tai chi and movies projected on the house wall.

Beneath some of the largest and most spectacular mature trees on the site we positioned a large outdoor room complete with a dining area, lounge, fireplace, and extensive outdoor kitchen partially built into an elegant timber screen. This screen cleverly conceals an elongated storage shed behind.
