Landscape Design Inspiration – May 2021

In the Works – Coastal Chic in City Beach

Coastal landscapes are some of our favourites to design (and to show off!). This tropical paradise sits atop a hill in City Beach, overlooking the trees. This design proposes a significant renovation of the existing home and garden, turning a large, charming, and well-placed but dated home into the pinnacle of Byron Bay style.

A landscape design render of the front of a white multi-level home, the garden is planted with a mix of hardy plants in neutral tones.

The design incorporates some of the existing mature trees and plant specimens of the residence, including two large trees in the front yard. The surrounding planting is a muted palette of hardy species, with a mix of textures and shapes for interest. The front garden design also proposes the elimination of the home’s current tiered sandstone retaining walls and replacing them with a single wall more in keeping with the new finishes of the structural renovation. The planting morphs towards the rear entrance of the property, where a naturalistic stone structure is enveloped by a splash of colourful flowering plants.

The design incorporates a new concrete pool with tropical, coastal designs and plenty of space for lounging and entertaining. Glass pool fencing preserves visibility to the pool from the furthest points of the space, and adds to the sense of a wide-open space. Finalised Design – Australian Natives and planted pool Gully

A landscape design render of a large, rectangular concrete pool overlooking a basketball court and Australian native plants.

This unique and exciting design has just reached the end of its design period and is on its way to construction. The landscape’s innovative pool gully and various hang-out zones have been carefully balanced to maintain a wide-open feel while effectively suiting each zone for its own use. Versatile and attractive with a hardy planting palette, the design has been through a number of iterations.

Initially, this space included a basketball court and crazy paving which were eventually scrapped in favour of a cleaner line and open space. The home is soon to be completed enabling construction of the landscape to take place. Take a look at the final flythrough of the landscape design.

Maintenance Showcase

A photograph of a contemporary home and garden through the leaves, the garden has matured and is climbing up a trellis structure in the home.

These photos were recently taken at one of our design, construct and long-term maintenance projects. The garden has really grown into the striking architecture of the home and at the moment the owners are experiencing a spectacular touch of autumn colour along the drive. It’s a delight to be entrusted with the maintenance of our design and construction projects because we get to see them really mature and come alive over time while ensuring they continue to look the best they possibly can at every stage.

Designed and constructed by TDL back in 2013-2014, the maintenance of this lovely landscape has been in our hands since then. Over that time the hedges have filled in, the trees have matured, and the numerous creeping plants that cover the property’s walls and structures have taken off. The mature garden transforms seasonally, with the Boston ivy throwing out autumnal foliage (as it is now) and the star jasmine putting out fragrant, beautiful flowers in the spring.
