St Johns Northam

The vision and design of the old St John’s Ambulance site was to retain the existing historical link and create a new public space that was engaging, and offered a place of respite. The landscape masterplan and concept options that TDL developed sought to reuse the existing St John’s structures to act as part of an arbor and shade structure, creating an interesting and economical industrial space. Engaging an artist to paint murals on the blade walls activates the space and adds colour while drawing on historical and local references, and discouraging antisocial behaviour. By introducing a grass link we were able to maximise the usable grass space and provide a green visual link through the space to a passive play area. The design has gone through to construction and is now open to the public.
